Aljanad University for Science and Technology welcomed a committee from the United Nations and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The visit involved meetings with the leadership and staff of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, as well as Aljanad Center for Research and Engineering Consultations. The purpose of this visit was to assess the war damages and explore potential benefits for reconstruction and the improvement and development of the essential infrastructure to support the local community in Taiz.
The visit marks the initiation of a series of collaborative efforts between the university, the engineering center, and the UN committee to enhance support and assistance in engineering and infrastructure fields.
Dr. Abdulraqib Ghalib, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, welcomed the delegation consisting of representatives from the UN committee and IOM, along with experts in engineering and infrastructure. Present during the reception were faculty members, including Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Qadri, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Marwan Al-Asali, Head of the Mechatronics Department, and Engineer Ammar Al-Ahdal, Director of Aljanad Center for Research and Engineering Consultations.
The Dean stated that the visit aimed to evaluate infrastructure support projects in Taiz, the reuse of debris from demolished buildings (war rubble) for reconstruction, wastewater management projects, flood control initiatives, and the potential use of water barriers and dams. Additionally, the center's capabilities in conducting structural tests for various materials, concrete, soil, and roads were assessed.
The committee inspected the infrastructure of the engineering center, its equipment, and facilities, assessing their potential utilization. They ensured Aljanad Center's capability to meet the committee's requirements for various tests and experiments.
According to Engineer Ammar Al-Ahdal, Director of the center, the collaboration with the UN committee and the forthcoming projects are expected to enhance the institutional capacity of the engineering center, facilitating the exchange of expertise and practices from previous experiences in other communities and countries.
Aljanad Center for Research and Engineering Consultations aims to build future partnerships to implement new projects that support reconstruction, recycling demolition waste, achieving sustainable development, and preserving the environment, fulfilling its social responsibility towards the governorate and the community as the largest specialized engineering research and consultation center in the governorate.
Notably, the joint cooperation will contribute to improving the quality of engineering projects in Taiz and increasing the efficiency of resource utilization, leading to a better and more sustainable environment.
