Al-Janad University for Science and Technology has successfully concluded the Third Al-Janad Chess Championship, organized by the Student Affairs Deanship in collaboration with the Chess Federation branch in Taiz. The tournament brought together over 30 male and female participants from various university departments, competing in an atmosphere of excitement and intense rivalry.
The competition was held in two separate categories. In the youth division, Osama Idris from the Nutrition Department clinched the championship title, with Khabib Mohammed Thabet from the Sharia and Law Department securing second place, while Hamzah Radwan from the Business Administration Department finished third.
In the women’s division, Abeer Radwan from the Information Technology Department claimed the top spot, followed by Aisha Abduljaleel from the Therapeutic Nutrition Department in second place, and Waad Mahboob from the Sharia Department securing third place.
The awards ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohyeddine Al-Qubati, President of Al-Janad University; Captain Nabil Makram, Deputy Director General of the Youth and Sports Office; Mr. Imad Al-Buraihi, Head of the Student Affairs Department; and Mohammed Al-Athwari, Head of the Chess Federation branch in Taiz, alongside Captain Anees Ghanem, the university’s sports coach. The officials presented medals and prizes to the winners, commending the participants for their impressive performances and competitive spirit.
The tournament is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to promote extracurricular activities, foster a culture of sportsmanship, and develop students’ skills across various athletic disciplines.
