Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at Faculty of Medical Sciences held an open project defense for a group of graduating students who presented their research project titled “Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Pulicaria jaubertii: Evaluating Antibacterial and Cytotoxic Activity.”

Supervised by Dr. Ansam Al-Shamiri, the research highlights the department’s growing focus on applied scientific inquiry in emerging fields such as nanotechnology and eco-friendly biomedical innovations. The study investigates the use of Pulicaria jaubertii, a plant known for its traditional medicinal properties, to synthesize silver nanoparticles through a green method, and assesses their effectiveness against bacteria as well as their cytotoxic impact. Initial results point to the potential development of safer, plant-based alternatives to conventional antibiotics.

The examination committee included Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, Head of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department, and Dr. Shadi Al-Amari, Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Department. Both experts commended the students for the scientific rigor and creativity of their work, emphasizing the value of integrating modern nanotechnologies with traditional medicinal knowledge to advance research in medical and pharmaceutical sciences.
