The Council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education concluded a national-level workshop on “Program Accreditation, Periodic Evaluation, and Licensing” on Thursday, July 24, 2025. The two-day event, held in Aden on July 23–24, was hosted by the University of Science and Technology.
Organized under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Khaled Ahmed Al-Wasabi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Technical Education, and Vocational Training, the workshop was conducted under the direct supervision of the Council’s Chair, Prof. Sawsan Mohammed Abdullah Bakhabeera.
Al-Janad University for Science and Technology was represented by a high-level delegation including University President Dr. Mohyeddine Al-Qubati, Dean of Academic Development and Quality Assurance Dr. Sameer Al-Asbahi, and Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. Abdulqawi Noman. The event brought together academic leaders from across Yemen, including university presidents, college deans, quality assurance officers, and coordinators of academic programs currently undergoing the national accreditation process.
The workshop focused on building institutional and programmatic capacity in line with the national accreditation framework. Core topics included the principles of program accreditation, processes for periodic evaluation, and regulatory requirements for academic program licensing.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khaled Omar Basaleem, described the event as a significant milestone—the first of its kind in Yemen dedicated specifically to program-level accreditation. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to prioritizing the licensing and quality assurance of academic programs nationwide.
Prof. Sawsan Bakhabeera, Chair of the Accreditation Council, emphasized that the workshop represents a strategic move toward strengthening higher education standards and aligning university outputs with labor market demands. She also underscored the importance of fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement as a foundation for sustainable academic development. Dr. Bakhabeera extended her gratitude to the University of Science and Technology for hosting the event and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of all participating institutions in making the workshop a success.
