The Dental Internship Program at Al-Janad University held an advanced professional training course titled “Minor Oral Surgery (Impacted Teeth)”, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the clinical skills of internship dentists in oral and maxillofacial procedures.
The specialized course, led by Dr. Mohammed Qahawish, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist, focused on the surgical management of impacted teeth and the latest techniques used in minor oral surgeries.
During the theoretical sessions, Dr. Qahawish reviewed key scientific concepts, including the classification and surgical extraction of impacted teeth, and the use of various flap techniques such as the Envelope, Triangular, Trapezoidal, and Semilunar flaps. He also discussed different suturing techniques—interrupted and continuous—and demonstrated how to select the most suitable approach for each surgical case, along with detailed explanations of common surgical knots such as the Square Knot and Surgeon’s Knot.
In the practical sessions, the internship dentists applied their learning through hands-on training using sheep heads, performing surgical incisions and suturing exercises under expert supervision. This practical component was designed to simulate real clinical environments and enhance surgical confidence and precision.
The training aims to equip young dental practitioners with the necessary surgical experience to handle real patient cases effectively and safely. It also reflects the university’s commitment to advancing medical and dental education through high-quality practical training aligned with modern international standards.
