As part of its ongoing Scientific Week activities, and under the auspices of Prof. Mohyeddine Al-Qubati, the University President, the Faculty of Medical Sciences organized a specialized training session on “Atherosclerosis”, delivered by Dr. Mufeed Baddah, with the participation of medical students from the university and other institutions.
The session provided a scientific overview of atherosclerosis, one of the most common and serious cardiovascular diseases affecting human health. Dr. Baddah explained how fatty deposits accumulate along arterial walls, leading to narrowing of the arteries and restricted blood flow to vital organs.
He also discussed the key causes and risk factors associated with the disease, including high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, hypertension, smoking and secondhand smoke exposure, diabetes or insulin resistance, obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy dietary habits, and genetic predisposition.
The training concluded with preventive and therapeutic guidelines, emphasizing healthy lifestyle modifications, regular physical activity, smoking cessation, control of lipid and blood sugar levels, and appropriate medical treatment under professional supervision.
This session is part of a series of scientific lectures and specialized workshops organized during the Scientific Week to enhance students’ academic knowledge and practical competencies in the medical and health sciences.
