The Deanship of Student Affairs at Al-Janad University has launched the fourth edition of the Al-Janad Debate Championship, in partnership with the Yemen Debates Foundation and under the patronage of University President Dr. Mohyeddine Al-Qabati. The initiative reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to promoting intellectual and cultural engagement and to strengthening students’ skills in dialogue and constructive debate.
The championship has drawn wide interest from across the university, with 175 students from various colleges and academic disciplines applying to take part. Following a one-day interview and selection process, the organizing committee announced the admission of 90 participants, who have begun a three-day training program ahead of the official competitive rounds.
The competition seeks to enhance critical thinking and develop students’ abilities in public speaking, persuasion, and structured dialogue, while encouraging a culture of respectful disagreement and openness to diverse perspectives. These goals aim to prepare students to engage effectively and responsibly in academic and societal issues through a disciplined, evidence-based approach.
The judging panel includes experienced debate specialists Hamza Al-Tarjami, Dr. Rahma Al-Aghbari, and Dania Aboud, who will assess team performances according to established professional criteria designed to ensure fairness, objectivity, and high-quality outcomes.
The Deanship of Student Affairs noted that the championship forms part of a broader series of programs and activities dedicated to identifying and nurturing student talent, strengthening partnerships with national specialized institutions—most notably the Yemen Debates Foundation—and reinforcing the university’s position as a leading institution in both academic excellence and extracurricular engagement.
