The preliminary rounds of the Fourth Al-Janad Debate Championship continued this week, organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs under the auspices of University President Prof. Mohyeddine Al-Qabati, in partnership with the Yemen Debates Foundation. The championship is part of an intensive competitive program designed to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills and promote constructive, evidence-based dialogue.

Held over two consecutive days, the tournament featured knockout rounds conducted in line with established academic debate standards. A total of 26 teams competed in an atmosphere characterized by discipline, seriousness, and a strong competitive spirit.

The preliminary rounds concluded with eight teams advancing to the next stage, scheduled for Saturday. The qualified teams will compete in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, with two teams progressing to the final debate on Sunday. The championship will conclude with a public closing ceremony marking the official end of the event.

To ensure transparency and impartiality, the judging panels were drawn from outside the university and comprise experienced debate specialists. This approach reflects the university’s commitment to fair assessment, professional standards, and the promotion of a culture of meaningful dialogue and systematic thinking among its students.
