English and Translation Department Examines Graduation Research in Pragmatics and Translation

The English Language and Translation Department at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Humanities examined two outstanding graduation research projects supervised by Dr. Najeeb Taher Al-Mansoub. The projects addressed pragmatic and linguistic issues relevant to the development of English language and translation education, in fulfillment of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree.

The first project, presented by a group of female students, was titled “A Comparative Study of Speech Acts of Giving Advice and Making Suggestions among Translation Students at Al-Janad and Al-Saeed Universities.” The examination committee commended the study for its analysis of translation students’ pragmatic competence and its emphasis on integrating pragmatic and cultural dimensions into translation curricula.

The department also examined a project titled “A Comparative Study of Making Offers and Invitations among English Language Learners in Taiz and American English Native Speakers.” The committee praised the study for contributing to pragmatic awareness and contextual understanding of linguistic and cultural differences.

During both discussions, Dr. Gamil Zaid, Dean of the Faculty, emphasized the importance of continuing academic research and pursuing postgraduate studies, while commending the students’ outstanding performance and the quality of their research topics. Dr. Abdalwahid Noman, Head of the Department, noted that such studies contribute to developing pragmatic and cultural awareness among translation students and strengthening their academic and professional readiness.

The projects reflect Al-Janad University’s commitment to supporting academic research and preparing highly qualified graduates in English language and translation.
